Review / Comments ::
To be honest this was a hard CD to review. Though I normally really like bagpipe music, I have to admit I am not sure if I could always stand to listen to it for 54 minutes straight.
Some tracks were in my opinion to fast-paced to use for meditation or massage therapy, but might be ok for background music while doing other more active things around the home or office.
Tracks which might be suitable for relaxing assuming one likes bagpipes might be (7) Greensleeves, (2) The Mist Covered Mountains, (4) The Water is Wide, (10) Danny Boy and (11) Going Home.
I especially enjoyed (2) The Mist Covered Mountains and the unique use of what appears to be woman's voice along with the bagpipes in this track made it really seem as if it has traveled to our ears through some crack in time. It seems especially old and mystical and calls out to us before picking up pace and making you want to join in the highland reel.
Piano notes tinkle softly along with the bagpipes in (4) The Water is Wide and again seem to draw one back in time. It made me think of the many families who immigrated to the United States and how they longed for their family left behind in the "old country".
The rendition of (7) Greensleeves they have mastered here is especially good in my opinion. I love the added notes of the flute which seem to join in and soar along with those of the bagpipes, before long a guitar and a bit of percussion joins in. A very cool and very unique treatment of an old favorite.
